March For Jesus by George and Eileen Anderson
prompted by the marches that believers do now and then with acknowledgements to the Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould
who should have known better
Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war!
We are not divided - for an hour or more.
Ministers and pastors said we could unite;
Once a year in public, we're a pretty sight.
Okay, we're divided, not one body we.
(The church ads in the paper are plain for all to see)
It isn't just our doctrines that split us into groups -
It's simply all the generals a-sharing out the troops.
Onward Christian soldiers, march through street and mall;
Sunday we'll split up again to chapel, church and hall.
Farewell such brief unity; we'll shed a silent tear
And pray the clergy let us do the same again next year.
Onward Christian soldiers, is Satan getting scared?
We'll banish every demon - or try to if we dared.
Hell's foundations quiver at our shout of praise
Till we're back to normal and go our separate ways.
Onward then, ye people, join the happy throng!
Blink not lest you miss it - we won't be one for long.
We'll all unite in Heaven, but meanwhile, here below,
Each in our little boxes, we worship - status quo.
